Home Office Design Ideas on a Budget

Do you work from home? Are you easily distracted by the noise coming from other members of your family? Here are some tips and home office design ideas on a budget that I have executed myself.

  • Identify your specific need for a home office design ideas.
  • Put your creative juices to work in view of your budget
  • Avoid getting supplies from chain stores
  • Do it yourself and create your workspace
  • Take a trip to the thrift stores
  • Take your time, Merge old and new items
  • Avoid complicated home office design ideas for your space

Identify your specific need for a home office design ideas.

First, no matter how low your budget, you want to identify the kind of work you want to be carrying out in your home workspace. For example, in my case, I mainly create video content for my YouTube channel and blog. So the specification of the items and the design idea that I used my office space, from computer to work desk was influenced by this need.

Put your creative juices to work in view of your budget

Redoing an entire room can be expensive unless of course you must work isolated from the rest of the house which is what I did.

If you don’t need the isolation, you can cordon off a section of your living space or bedroom with a screen. Or do what I did, roll up your sleeves and be hands-on.

  • Save

Avoid getting supplies from chain stores

Look out for cheaper ways to get what you need for your home office. And this can be looked at in two ways.

  1. As far as I know, most homes always have useable household items stored up in the attic, basement or garage. Perhaps you might want to take some time out and look through those things and see if you can find some ”gems” for your home office. I have had to convert my abandoned soundbar and old MacBook pro for my basic audio production needs.
  2. If that does not apply to you, but don’t forget that we’re on a budget so start searching for refurbished or cheap items in a local store where you can find storage and other relevant items at a giveaway cost. In this case, I got a very good deal on a certified refurbished computer on Amazon for my video production. That saved me some money.

Do it yourself and create your workspace

Like I said before, you may need to roll up your sleeves and DIY some things in setting up your home office. Especially in areas where you don’t need any technical skills like painting the room, assembling your work table and storage. This is a very fun way to learn new skills which work as an added benefit.

it is true that attitude towards work can be influenced to a great extent by your work space.

Labor in the city where I live is very expensive. So I saved a reasonable amount of money on paint costs and assembling my office table.

Take a trip to the thrift stores

Whether you are rich or not, we all want to save some money in any way possible. When I was shopping for items to use in my workplace, I went on the Facebook marketplace where I got storage furniture for next to nothing. And I got flow lamps for free. So you want to take a trip to your local thrift stores and garage sales.

Take your time

Bearing in mind that I was working a low budget, I started creating my workspace knowing it will take time for everything to really come together exactly the way I want it. Once you get the basics in place, do the rest of the work over a period of time. This will take the strain off your budget and help you save costs at the same time.

By the way, I don’t consider my home office completed yet. It is a project you want to carry out over a period of time if need be.

I am greatly motivated to work in my home office space. So your space deserves all the creativity and set up over a period of time.  Don’t rush it if you don’t have to.

Merge old and new items

I needed a seemingly big table because of video production. That way it can accommodate all the things I need to be by me when shooting a video. Here is the smart thing I decided to do… The table I originally wanted for the office was a bigger size to the one I eventually got. It cost me only half the price. I was able to merge it with an old office table I already had and still have a good working space.

Take your time, Merge old and new items

It is great to get creative as you design your home office space. But you don’t necessarily have to get complicated with it. most times, the complex your design, the more impact you get on your budget and resources. So you want to keep it dang simple.

There are a ton of reasons why setting up a home office is growing rapidly. I started building an online business last year because I am building time leverage. Why are you setting up a home office and what are your ideas? Looking forward to seeing your reply in the comments.

Avoid complicated home office design ideas for your space

It is great to get creative as you design your home office space. But you don’t necessarily have to get complicated with it. most times, the complex your design, the more impact you get on your budget and resources. So you want to keep it dang simple.

In conclusion, the home office design budget gives you the leverage to get creative as it was for me. Not to mention the experience added to your arsenal as an entrepreneur.

Thanks a lot for sharing with us such an amazing article.

I was thinking to work from home but I always hit this issue with the family. but I always hit this issue with the family. I don’t mind their presence but having a small child, I am always distracted and the noise around me is very high. I do not want to give up my online business and this year I even decided to quit my daily job. This means a lot of work that I will have to do from home. Your ideas are great and the biggest advantage for me is that they come with a low budget. I totally agree with you, the fact that we want a more complex environment brings more complications, both financially and at stress level. The result of stress we all know, productivity decreases and our goals are very difficult to reach.

Thanks again for this. Hope to read more article of your because it is very interesting and full of useful information’s. Good luck!

Thank you for reading. Yeah, family will always be a great part of our lives. Dang, but the noise can be crazy overwhelming and I totally understand how you feel.

The need to find a way around the situation and figure it out cannot be overstressed. In my case, even with the office setup, my kids still manage to distract me, especially when shooting a video.

Here’s what I am doing to remedy the situation, perhaps you can learn something from it.

I draft articles for my blog during the day when I am not at work. At this time, older kids have gone to school. Meaning, less traffic, and less noise. With that still, I get a bit of distraction from my younger kids too because they’re not old enough to be in school. What that says to me is that there’s no such thing as a perfect situation. It is absolutely on us to figure out what works best. But I am able to handle the distractions a lot better with writing an article.

Then, of course, I shifted my video content creation to night time when everyone is fast asleep. Hence I am only able to create one video per week. I sincerely hope to do more as I keep trying deferent methods to see what works best.

hope this helps. I wish you all the best.

Wow, this has never occurred to me. Despite working from home, I use to have trouble getting my things organized and could get easily distracted.

Having an organized office is truly something to consider. Well, building can take some time, but I think is fun and time we can get creative, even reducing cost for us. I will like to try this. This is very helpful.

      Awesome,

Yes. An organized workspace could mean an organizes work schedule. Glad you found it helpful. Thank for reading.

Building an online business is one of my top priority right now and I have considered designing an home office before now. This home office design on a low budget looks no brainer and fantastic. There are indeed so many stuffs we can buy for cheap and other stuffs we can make by ourselves. I like the idea of mixing with old items and doing most of the job ourselves to avoid labour costs. I even know how to paint and some of these other stuffs too.

    Warm regards!

    1. admin

Yes, it is a great thing to put some effort into building the actual business itself. but for me, creating that space is giving focus and that peace of mind that I need. now I can double on achieving my goals. it was a matter of priority for me. thanks for your contribution.

I love the way you (or the guy in the video if not you) got set-up his personal home office! Definitely balancing between old and new items would be crucial to get your office on a budget.

You need to consider space limitation and the objective of getting your office in the first place. In any case, you’ll need a quiet space, but the requirements may change a lot if you want just a place to think, read and write, or if you’re looking for recording video, audio for podcasting or even live streaming.

Thanks for all your recommendations on how to get our home office space set up.

I am about to set up my home office for my internet marketing business and luckily I stumbled upon this article that taught me some ideas on how to set up correctly. You are right, instead of just dumping money on supplies sold in stores that are known to sell expensive items, we should find a way to get the things that we need for less than their actual costs. Also, the office that we should set up should be relaxing in the eyesight making the day-to-day work fun and enjoyable.

    1. admin

Hi Gomer, glad the article was useful for you.

    Hello,

It was interesting to read an informative article. It is essential for people who work at home to have their own office space.

You gave many great tips on how to design office space on a budget. I think the office table should be close to the window ( if possible), and Dollar Store is a good source of unexpansive office supplies (thrift store is perfect too).

Great post, interesting to read and perfect ideas!

  12. Paul

I am a full-time Blogger and Affiliate Marketer working from home. So your post means a lot to me and provided great insights.

You are right, by just checking on the package of not used and old items we can save a lot of money because a lot of useful items can be found in it. When we do it ourselves it gives a great satisfaction, gives a personal touch and it motivates a lot.

Visiting the local thrift stores and garage sales is an eye-opener for me. I am going to implement what I learned from your article.

Thanks for the Great inspiring post! This has to be motivating, not only for me but also for many others.

    1. admin

What fantastic ideas! Shopping from thrift stores is truly the way to go if they have what you need. Also, anything you can do yourself as far as designing, building, and decorating (paint) is a super way to save. Also, repurposing items to use in slightly different ways can save loads of time and money.

Having your own home office truly does make a difference in your productivity, and it’s great to see people like you sharing their expertise in helping others learn to do things efficiently.

wow, this is very good my brother, I think I am going to follow your advice. I have been looking to way on how I can work peacefully within my home. thank you for the advice. buying material from cheaper places has always been my practice. how do you let your kids understand that your home office is private and they should not disturb you while in there?

    1. admin

Hi Joseph, somehow the kids understand that whenever I am in there, I am either shooting a video or writing a blog post. And some times kids being who they are, don’t care whether or not you have a business to attend to. for the most part, I simply work around their  ” schedule”. they the real owners of the house. but I am glad you got some value here. thanks for your contribution.

  18. This is very inspirational, I have been looking at how I can create a work station within reach from my house. I was not aware that I can actually create an office in my house. I am so happy about this idea. Did you consider the issue of having to assist with one or two things while you’re busy with your work; some time kinds or even their mother can come and ask for assistance urgently, and this may take more time than you may have anticipated… other things being equal, This is a very good idea. I also like the advice to save when buying material. BIGUP! to you sir.

    1. Sam Oa

Once in a while, they do call my attention to one or two things I help with. Sometimes, the boys pop in just to say hi briefly. By and large, they understand and know not to disturb when I am in there. Especially when shooting a video. Not perfect but still works somehow. thanks for your contribution.
